NORMAL WEST MARCHING BAND UNIFORM INFORMATION

UNIFORM COORDINATORS:
CAROL KEHL (454-1794);
CATHY TROYER (726-1605);
JAMA LINDAHL (452-9774)

To assist parents and band members to get off on the “RIGHT FOOT!” we want everyone to be informed of what is expected of the students, parents and uniform coordinators.

STUDENTS (REQUIREMENTS FOR EVERY PERFORMANCE) ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  1. BLACK MARCHING SHOES: You will need to order these ASAP from the Music Shoppe. PARENTS: Be sure your student has their name clearly and permanently marked in BOTH shoes! These may be left on the uniform cart under their uniform. If they choose to do so, we will not be responsible for them
  2. BLACK SOCKS: A clean pair is needed for each performance.
  3. BLACK GLOVES: Every instrument requires them, except for the drumline and pit. You may purchase these at the Music Shoppe. We recommend purchasing at least 2 pairs.
  4. BAND T-SHIRT: This is a required piece of your uniform and must be worn under it. If you lose your shirt, you will have to purchase a replacement.
  5. BOXER SHORTS: Girls and boys are usually changing into uniform in close quarters. This will alleviate any uncomfortable situations. BOXERS MUST BE WORN WHEN YOU ARE BEING FITTED FOR YOUR MARCHING UNIFORM. THIS ASSURES YOUR PANTS FIT PROPERLY!!
  6. RETURN UNIFORM neatly hung on the hangar marked with your name and your hat in your designated hatbox to your marked space on the uniform cart.

PARENTS: Please help and double check before your student leaves for a performance that they have these items – black shoes, socks, gloves, boxer shorts & band t-shirt. We cannot supply these items and do not have extras

HELPFUL HINT: A BACKPACK THAT CONTAINS EVERYTHING NEEDED FOR BAND PERFORMANCES IS A GOOD WAY TO HELP YOUR STUDENT ORGANIZE THEIR BELONGINGS.

UNIFORM COORDINATORS are responsible for the fitting, altering, cleaning and repair of the uniforms. They & parent volunteers will assist students in obtaining and taping gauntlets (worn over the sleeves of the jacket), distribute hat plumes prior to performances and collect them following performances. They are NOT responsible for supplying shoes, socks and gloves. These are the responsibility of the student. They are not expected to hang the uniforms on the carts following a performance; this is also the student’s responsibility.

If everyone is responsible for their uniform parts then changing into and out of the uniform will go smoothly. Frequently, our uniform changing time is limited so being prepared with everything you need will decrease everyone’s stress level. A uniform check will be done before the first performance and Ms. Preston will not allow anyone with missing uniform parts to take the field. BE PREPARED!

If you have questions or concerns or you are interested in helping us with uniform fittings during Band Camp in August and/or assisting at performances please call us. We look forward to your questions and/or assistance.
