2006 GAME NEWS

NCHS sweeps Peoria Richwoods in the first 5 innings with a score of 19-1.  The first HR was recorded for the Lady Iron and a strong showing for their first game and win of the season!
NCHS holds Lincoln until 1 run scored in the 4th.  Lady Iron scored in the 6th to tie the game and continued on to 10 innings, claiming victory in the 10th with 2 triples and the game winning RBI for a final score of 2-1!
NCHS shuts out Evanston in both games of the Saturday double-header! 2-0 and 12-0
It was a tough battle with Streator but well worth it - NCHS scored 2 runs in the 3rd and held Streator to the end for a 2-0 shutout!
NCHS allowed 6 runs in the 1st inning but came back strong against Mt Zion, finishing with a 7-5 loss.
Another win for Lady Iron!  0-0 going into the 4th but the team scored 2 runs that inning and held Metamora for the remaining 3 for a victory of 2-0!  Their 4th shutout of the season!
NCHS scored 1 run in the 3rd and held U-High till the 6th, when they scored a run also, but quickly shut them down with the bases loaded.  The game was tied until the 10th inning, when NCHS scored 3 runs for a 4-1 victory!
NCHS wins their 1st conference game against Danville!
Lady Iron goes neck to neck with Glenwood-Chatham thru 10 scoreless innings, but lost a well-fought battle when Chatham scored a run in the 11th to win the game 1-0.
Second conference win for Lady Iron when they shutout Decatur Eisenhower 4-0!
NCHS wins conference game against Decatur MacArthur for a 3-0 conference standing!
NCHS had a non-conference shutout of Springfield in a game halted by the 10-run rule after 4½ innings at home.  The 7th shutout of the season!
It was a beautiful day for walking around the bases at NCHS where the Lady Iron shutout Champaign Centennial  both games.  They strolled around the bases for a total of 33 runs, adding another conference win to their standings!  4 for 4 in the conference!
NCHS took on Central Catholic at O'Neil fields and held their own until the 6th inning when it was still tied at 0-0.  CC got 2 back-to-back hits to score their only run and beat the Lady Iron 1-0.
The bats were smokin at Morton as Lady Iron took the win against the tough Morton Potters.  Doubles, singles and a triple got the win for NCHS.

Lady Iron came out strong again tonight as they defeated Bloomington 2-0.  After 6 scoreless innings, Lady Iron smashed a 2-run homer over the fence in the top of the 7th, and finished off Bloomington in the bottom half with a perfectly pitched game.  There were rumors that the pitcher, who hit the game-winning HR and got the 2 RBI's, had just made a deal with her dad not more than 24 hrs earlier, that if she pitched a perfect game and hit an HR in the same game, that he would get her a new car.  We also hear that she has her eye on a:

Turbo 911 Porsche.        or a Beamer 645       Sweet...

Rain, cold, and wind couldn't stop the Lady Iron from pounding out some hits today against conference team opponent Urbana to take 2 wins - a shutout in the first and a single earned run in the 2nd game, scoring a combined 18 runs against the Tigers and bringing total shutouts to a count of 10!
It was a breath-holding game when NCHS Lady Iron played their conference opponent, top intercity rival Normal West.  West took the lead early in the game with a 2-run homer and held the Iron to 2 runs scored in the 5th with the final outcome of 5-2.
Lady Iron met for the second time with conference opponent Decatur Eisenhower to take another win and increase their conference standing to 7:1.
Prom Day and a conference game!  Lady Iron was determined to take both wins so they could skip the bus ride home to prepare for the big night (coach's deal).  It just goes to show, there is life after softball.  Success was theirs as they shutout Champaign Central in the opener and won in the nightcap too.  Another big success as they all arrived for prom pictures on time, looking more beautiful than ever with their hair up (and not in a ponytail), nails polished, and bedazzling gowns, ready for the ball (no pun intended)...
As strong as ever, Lady Iron pounded out 13 hits against conference opponent Decatur MacArthur, pitched a perfect game and won by the 10 run rule in the 5th.  Way to go!

Congrats to NCHS for taking the lead in the Big 12 Conference with a 9-1 record and 3 conference games left to play!

Another conference win for the Lady Iron as they defeated #4 ranked Mattoon on a very cold rainy day at NCHS, upping their record to 22-6 overall and 10-1 in the conference!
Car update:  Dad held true to his promise and a new silver Eclipse was just purchased.  Good job!

GOOD LUCK TO THE LADY IRON FROM ALL THE PARENTS AND FANS AS YOU FINISH UP THE LAST 5 GAMES OF YOUR REGULAR SEASON THIS WEEK!!

The second meeting with another top intercity rival and conference opponent, BHS, took 2 days to complete.  After playing 3 innings (1 in pouring rain), the game was postponed until the following day with BHS holding a lead of  1-0.  They held that lead thru the remaining 4 innings where the Iron Maidens took only their 7th loss of the season.  A great game played by 2 great teams!  This put Normal Community and Normal West in a tie for first place in the Big 12 Conference.  Good luck tomorrow!!!

Victory  was clenched by the Iron Maidens as they went 8 innings against another great intercity rival, Normal West for the BIG 12 Conference Championship title!  What a game - both teams tied for first place in the conference!  With some well-executed at-bats in the top of the 8th, NCHS scored the lone run in the game, for another conference shutout, a conference win, and the conference title!  Congrats to both teams for a great game and their accomplishments this year.

Lady Iron downed Mahomet-Seymour Friday night, getting 2 insurance runs in the first inning and breaking the tie in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 win.  The win was topped off with Senior night, where Carrie, Allison, and Hannah (pictured below, l-r) were honored.  The team first went and cheered on the Varsity baseball team to ensure their win against Bloomington (which it did) and then celebrated afterwards with cake and some teary eyes!  It was a great year with a lot of memories! Congratulations and best wishes for the future!
NCHS hosted a Round Robin on this beautiful sunshine-filled day to finish out their regular season .  Teams invited included Springfield Sacred Heart, Mt Zion, and Washington.  The first game Lady Iron downed Mt Zion 5-1 and took a loss in the second game against Sacred Heart with a final score of 3-2.

Final standings for the regular season:    overall: 25-8   conference: 11-2   shutouts: 13

GOOD LUCK to the Lady Iron as they go into the Regional playoffs!
