Intercity softball: NCHS wins two

Normal Community posted a 5-4 win over Mount Zion and a 1-0 victory over Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin in nonconference play at Normal on Saturday.

NCHS (26-3) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to nip Mount Zion, which had tied the game at 4-all with four runs in the top of the inning. Jessi Smith drove in the winning run for NCHS. Lisa White had two hits and Bailey Franklin (6-0) was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.

Megan Nonnemacher (16-2) shut out Sacred Heart-Griffin on one hit. She struck out 10 and walked one.  Kimmy Hassel had two hits for NCHS and scored the game’s only run in the first. Teammate Kaity Crane had a double in each game.
