NCHS IronPride Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2007
Lisa Osnowitz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Those present were Lisa Osnowitz, Kate Rodriguez,
The August minutes were approved with corrections.
Treasurers (Beth Nobre / Becky Cobert): (Julie Stokke resigned as treasurer but will keep her job with the café. Beth Nobre was voted in as treasurer through an email vote.) The available balance of our account is $7028.87. There are no outstanding bills and we are in good shape. Beth is going to start allocating the expenses so we know what we have available to give out. She has created a spreadsheet with the itemized balances so we know where we are making money and where our costs are. She announced that t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants account for 70% of sales at the store.
Principal’s Report (Jeanette Nuckolls): Current enrollment is 1810 students. We’re off to a good start. Thanks for all of your assistance with open house. The school conducted a code red drill and the students did a great job. The staff needs to address communication, Driver’s Ed vehicles in the field, window coverings, safety and security and personal needs before the next drill. It is estimated that it may take 8 to 9 hours to get all of the students out of the building in case of a real event. That is being addressed as well. Dr. Nuckolls would like to have one shower curtain per classroom for students’ privacy. It was suggested to have hand sanitizers, candy and water available in the rooms as well. Central Catholic conducted a similar drill. We will conduct another drill in the spring.
Vice Presidents (Terri Heid/Peggy Feldman): No report.
Hospitality (Teri Carroll-Miller): The committee will be serving a BBQ lunch on Wednesday.
Spirit Store (Pam Wylder/Colleen Liesman): No report. Lisa reported that they sold over $1200 worth of merchandise at the football game.
Café (Julie Stokke/Judy Jiles): The café is in need of a small freezer so they don’t have to run to Sam’s every couple of days. Sears has the right size freezer for $189. The room is already wired to handle this. A suggestion was made to see if one could be donated. Felicia will put the request on the website and give it 2 weeks. If we have no response, Julie and Judy will purchase the one from Sears. A motion to spend up to $200 for a freezer if no freezer was donated was made by Peggy Feldman and seconded by Becky Cobert. The vote was unanimous. The light in the refrigerator is acting up but Julie thinks it is just the light. The Coke cooler is leaking so Becky will call Coke tomorrow to have them look at it. Terri Heid would like to get a step stool so no one has to climb on the counters to reach the top shelves.
Web Master (
Concessions (Janie Zalesiak): Concessions are going well. All of the football concessions have been assigned and Janie has already received requests for the playoff games. She asked if IronPride wanted to run a concession for a playoff game but the group preferred to let others groups make the money instead. Some groups could share a game because of the amount of work involved. NCHS will be hosting a sophomore basketball tournament. Jennifer Hamilton has sent an email to all of the organizations. The concessions will be modeled after the summer basketball tournament that was a huge success.
Publicity (Beth Nobre): No report.
Dance (Judy Fritzen): The first dance was a lot of fun and consisted of mostly freshmen and sophomores. The Homecoming dance is October 20th.
Greeters (Available): No report.
Special Events: Open House was well attended. We ran out of coffee and there were long lines for the cookies. There will not be an open house in the spring due to the teacher’s contract. There used to be a voluntary open house in the spring but not enough parents attended.
Old Business:
The disputed bills from Coke were actually bills for Unit 5. We had paid some of the bills that didn’t belong to us and the credit was a rebate from the Coke machines in the school. NCHS has 14 accounts with Coke and only 1 of those accounts belongs to IronPride. The bills are now settled but we will keep a close eye on future bills.
Lisa distributed a handout detailing what the technology department has done for the school with our contributions.
New Business:
A motion was made by Judy Jiles
and seconded by
The soccer team is requesting any amount toward the purchase
of 24 warm up suits (jacket and pants) for the team. They have been trying for
3 years to find the right ones. They
have been raising money from bagging for tips and they have some State Farm
grants. The current warm ups are 8 years
old. There are 37 players and 3 coaches
and the JV would get the old warm ups.
The cost is $88.00 per suit. The
team may share a football concession with FOIF.
Peggy Feldman motioned to give the soccer team $1000.00 toward the
purchase of new warm ups and
