NCHS IronPride Meeting Minutes

August 20, 2007

Lisa Osnowitz called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Those present were Lisa Osnowitz, Kate Rodriguez, Felicia Harrison, Terri Heid, Carol John, Janie Zalesiak, Peggy Feldman, Beth Nobre, Pam Wylder, Judy Fritzen, Jeanette Nuckolls, Teri Carroll-Miller, Julie Stokke and Beth Sennett.

The May minutes were approved as written.

President (Lisa Osnowitz): Welcome back!  Thanks to all those who hit the ground running for registration!

Terri – for the many phone calls and emails to get people to fill Mr. Gourley and Mr. Clark’s volunteer needs.  Colleen – for her efforts in getting volunteers for the spirit wear sales. Teri – you and your committee did an excellent job of manning the IronPride table.

Pam and Beth spent long hours getting ALL of the awesome spirit wear inventory ready for the week of registration and the school year.  Colleen jumped in to set up and all three worked very long hours at registration.  Beth made the wonderful signs with so much fabulous information.  Parents really appreciated knowing how their donations are spent.  Terri Heid suggested that the signs be placed around the school so parents can see them all year long.  Dr. Nuckolls mentioned that Bloomington HS has a plaque on their football field that states “Maintained by”… which we could do for items that we donate to the school.

Julie spent a lot of time in the café and Julie F., Judy F., Kate and Felicia have spent a lot of hours working on different things plus registration.  Janie and crew got the outside concession cleaned and ready to go.  She also had the inside concession up and going for the recent (big) basketball tourney.

Ladies, everyone put a tremendous amount of effort into registration.  Your ideas and enthusiasm were outstanding.  THANK YOU for getting IronPride and NCHS off to a great start.

The winner of the spirit wear basket is Suzy Reh, mother of an incoming freshman.

The teachers have been invited to join IronPride and we are raffling off a couple of items at Wednesday’s light snacks lunch.  According to our by-laws, all the officers and committee chairpersons need to join IronPride.  Please do so if you haven’t already.

Lisa is writing thank you notes to everyone who donated $50.00 or more and to Mr. Whitman for his signs.

Treasurers (Julie Stokke/Becky Cobert):  The balance of our account is about $8500.00 plus another $6000.00 from the Unraiser.  All of the bills are paid but there is a disputed invoice from Coke for $3000.00.  Julie will be looking into that.

Principal’s Report (Jeanette Nuckolls): Thanks for all of your assistance with registration and a special thanks to Emily Rodriguez for all of her help with Mr. Gourley and Mr. Clark.  The Back to School dance will be held on September 14th after the first home football game.  We will be raising the Banner for the girls Softball State Championship.  September 12th is the Big 12 Leadership Conference.  These students will also greet the freshmen on Wednesday (first day of school) and teach them the school song.  She provided sizes for t-shirts for the new faculty members.  IronPride will donate the drinks provided to the workers at registration.  There will be no open lunch for the seniors.  There will not be a carnival for Homecoming this year.  We are going to have a Parade instead.

Committee Reports

Vice President (Peggy Feldman): She has a lot of old treasurer information (checks and reports) for Spirit Club and needs to know what to do with these.  Dr. Nuckolls will put them in the vault so we have records for seven years.

Hospitality (Teri Carroll-Miller): Over 250 volunteers signed up at registration to help with Hospitality and she has 12 people on her committee.  They will be serving light snacks and sandwiches to the faculty and staff on Wednesday, the first day of school.  September 29th will be a fried chicken lunch.

Spirit Store (Pam Wylder): Registration is over!  They took in over $10,000.00 at registration and over $1000.00 at the Orange and Black scrimmage and at the freshman open house.  They sold about 1500 items.  The new logo bags are awesome but they are in need of bank bags now.  Colleen reports that the volunteer schedule is filling up and there is a meeting on Thursday for training.

Café (Julie Stokke): She and Judy Jiles have purchased all of the dry items for the café.  They will get the perishables on Wednesday and open on Thursday.  Terri Heid and Volleyball are signed up to work the first week.  The café was open during registration.  They were hoping to have parents sign up but only 5 did.  Coffee, lemonade and cookies were available at no cost.  Freshmen, sophomores and their parents really appreciated this during the long wait at the ID machine.  The total cost for registration was about $125.00.  If we want to do this again, we should budget $200 - $300 for next year since we ran out by 7:00.

Web Master (Felicia Harrison):  Send her anything you want on the website.  Email addresses for board members are out there now.

Concessions (Janie Zalesiak): Janie has written rules for concessions which will be posted on the website and sent to all coaches and Andy Turner.  Unit 5 has a contract with Coke stating that all soda and water products sold at concessions must be purchased from Coke (through IronPride).  All concessions must have a permit from the Health Department and must follow all Health Department guidelines.

Thanks to Carol, Judy and Peggy for helping with the concessions for the AYBT Basketball Tournament.  Cheerleading, Poms, the Junior Class and Student Council each received about $1300 for their efforts in running the concessions.

The committee has created a standard menu with standard prices that all football and basketball concessions will use.  Football concessions have been assigned to the Alumni Assoc., FOIF, Band and the Junior Class.  The Alumni has their own menu so Judy will talk to them.  Soda must be in bottles and not in cups with lids.  Janie has a checklist for the concessions to make it easier for groups to run them.

Publicity (Beth Nobre):  To date, only sports have been promoted so Beth would like to promote the academic events as well.  She wants to begin with the Big 12 Leadership team (not all of whom are athletes).  We will put an ad in the Ink Spot as soon as a student asks us.  We will not place an ad with Royal Publishing this year.  We will try to do a spring program.  Beth gives a special thanks to Felicia for doing a great job with the website.

Dance (Judy Fritzen):  The first dance is September 14th.  Many parents signed up to volunteer at the dances.  The Homecoming dance is October 20th.

Greeters (Available):  Eighteen parents volunteered to be greeters.

Special Events: There was a typo in the newsletter and Open House is Monday, September 10th beginning at 6:30.  Student Council will serve the cookies, coffee and water that we provide.

New Business:

Jenn Giermann and Jordan Gonzolez Newton, sponsors for the sophomore class, requested 70 – 80 t-shirts for about $500 for the Battle of Bands.  IronPride has donated these in the past for the band members but $400 was not enough.  Harlan Vance will be printing the shirts because Mr. Whittman can’t do that many shirts in a short time period.  Select Screen Prints was even more expensive than Harlan Vance.

Terri Heid motioned to grant the Sophomore Class up to $500.00 for Battle of the Bands.  Janie Zalesiak seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.

The next meeting will be on Monday, September 17, 2007.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kate Rodriguez
