National Honor Society - Project Consideration

We have two projects and would like you to consider both. As members of NHS, we expect you to be part of at least one and hopefully both projects.

1st Project: Book Showers for Literacy

The Child Care Resource and Referral Network (CCRRN) wants to buy books for holiday presents. The books are given to small children who may not have any books of their own. The CCRRN is able to buy the books at a reduced cost through arrangements with book publishers. We are asking each NHS member to donate at least $3 for this worthy organization. Checks should be made payable to CCRRN. Please bring your donation to Mrs. Benson (in room 232 or 236) or Mrs. Mester (in the IMC). Just a few dollars and you can brighten a small child’s day. We will need your donation by Tuesday, December 11th.

2nd Project: The WJBC Brotherhood Tree

The purpose of the Brotherhood Tree project is to collect presents for needy families in the Bloomington-Normal area. We are involved in two projects with the Brotherhood Tree.

First we are asking you to bring an unwrapped gift for a high school student. We have found that people tend to buy gifts for small children but older children are often left out. And who better to buy for a teenager than a teenager? You could spend 5-10 dollars. Choose a gift that you would like to receive – such as a book, CD, jewelry, an item from Bath and Body, sports equipment or anything of your choosing. Bring the unwrapped gifts to Mrs. Benson (in room 232 or 236) and Mrs. Mester (in the IMC) by Friday, December 14.

Secondly, the Brotherhood Tree organization needs help sorting and wrapping the gifts. We need your help on Monday, December 17th from 5 to 9pm. Sign-up for an hour or two – we have sign-up sheets with Mrs. Benson (in room 232 or 236) and Mrs. Mester (in the IMC). Sign-up by Friday, December 14th.

Gift wrapping for the WJBC Brotherhood Tree takes place at the Bloomington Armory. 1616 S. Main St. BLOOMINGTON, Illinois 61701. To get there take Veteran’s Parkway to South Bloomington then exit at US 51 North. On your right you will see a Dairy Queen and the Armory is the next building. There is a road right beside the Armory to turn into; the parking and entrance are in the back of the building. If you miss that turn, you can go on up to Lafayette Street, then turn and circle back behind.

Also, if you did not already give one of your NHS sponsors a gift for a teen, feel free to bring a gift with you that night.

Thanks for making Service a priority for National Honor Society!
