Uniform Care and Instructions

Formal Marching Band uniform

The Marching Uniform provided by NCHS consists of:

Jacket with baldric

Jumpsuit 

 Hat (with hat box)

Garment bag and hanger for storage of uniform

Pair of Gauntlets

The Student provides the following uniform items:

Black marching shoes [available at the Music Shoppe]

2 pairs of black gloves [available at the Music Shoppe]

Boxer shorts, leggings or spandex shorts (all students)

T-shirt (all students)

Plain Black socks socks - mid calf length (all students)

UNIFORM CARE INSTRUCTIONS

1. JACKET

• Dry Clean only if needed. (Hanson's Cleaners on Vernon Avenue in Normal are the NCHS band uniform cleaners. They will give you a 10% discount on cleaning of band uniforms.)

• Air dry before storing in bag to prevent mold.

• Leave bag unzipped when storing at home.

• Use provided hanger to hang up jumpsuit, gauntlets and jacket.

2. Jumpsuit

• Check after each performance and if needed dry clean right away so you will get them back before the next event. (Hanson's Cleaners on Vernon Avenue in Normal are the NCHS band uniform cleaners. They will give you a 10% discount on cleaning of band uniforms.)

• Hang with creases together over provided hanger.

3. BAND SHIRT AND GLOVES

• A t-shirt must be worn under the jacket   (no tank tops or camisoles) under jacket.

• Keep an extra pair of gloves inside jacket or jumpsuit pocket.

4. SHORTS 

 • Always wear all boxer shorts, leggings or spandex shorts under your street clothes so you will be prepared to dress on the bus!

5. SHOES AND BLACK SOCKS

• Write your name in shoes with permanent marker.

• Wear plain black socks mid calf length.

• Do not put shoes in garment bag because they will rip the bag.

• Wash shoelaces with laundry soap, if needed.

6. HAT

• Adjust fit if needed using string inside hat and the chin strap.

• All hair must be under the hat, all students. Use hair ties and bobby pins if necessary.

7. GARMENT BAG

• Hang uniform in bag with provided hanger after each use.

• Leave bag unzipped during storage to prevent mold.

• No Shoes in bag.

8. MISCELLANEOUS

• Double check before leaving home that you have all uniform pieces.

• Do not wear nail polish or jewelry to field show competitions because judges will deduct points.

• Do not mark or put tape on the garment bag or hat box.
