Fund raising opportunities for the

NCHS Band Program

The cost of operating our program continues to rise each year and the budgets supplied by Unit 5 are simply unable to keep up with those costs.  Due to these rising costs, fundraising is an essential part of the band’s activities.  All students are encouraged to participate in the efforts to generate additional funds for the band program as well as individual trip accounts.

·         Fundraising for the general band account.  The funds generated from these fundraisers are used for the benefit of the entire band program.  These funds help with the purchase of new music, pay for clinicians, major new instrument purchases (that are not funded by the district), and other needs of the program that may arise.

·         Fundraising for individual trip accounts.  In the past these have primarily been for the marching band program.  However, in the future the concert bands will begin traveling as well.  The majority of the profits generated from this type of fundraiser are designated for individual student accounts to defray the cost of upcoming trips.  Students seeking financial assistance for a trip are required to participate in all fundraising activities.

Please review the fund raising events below. The events that are already scheduled will be listed with a date. Please contact Cheri Houldsworth (crhouldsworth@yahoo.com) or Phyllis McCluskey-Titus (pamcclu2@ilstu.edu) if you have questions or suggestions.

Here are some of the good folks that support the NCHS Band Program:

NCHS Band fundraiser at McDonalds

NCHS Band fundraiser “Spirit Night” at the College Avenue McDonald's on Thursday August 26th from 5pm-7pm. The band will receive 15% of the sales between 5pm-7pm that evening! So get out and promote this to your friends and relatives!!! (This is a band program fund raiser.)

Attached (just click on the link) are coupons and flyers to hand out to family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Students also brought coupons home after band practice on Tuesday, 8/17.

This is a great team building activity for section leaders to have band members and their families eat together that evening.

We could use about 8 people (band members and family members) between 5pm-6pm and 8 people between 6pm-7pm (family members only…band practice at 6pm) to hand out coupons and promote school spirit. Let Phyllis know if you are available to assist. Wear your orange or Major League band shirt and let’s promote ourselves and our band!

Phyllis (pamcclu2@ilstu.edu) and Cheri (crhouldsworth@yahoo.com)

Cheesecake sales

Look for the cheesecake sales packet to come home with your student also on Tuesday, 8/17.  This is a fundraiser for your student's account, so if you do not see the material come home with your student, be sure to ask about it.  Cheesecake orders will be due back Thursday, Sept. 2nd, giving you over two weeks to sell.  For cheesecake sales $5.50 per cheesecake sold goes into the student's account.

Raffle Tickets

Our raffle has begun! Your band student should have come home with 10 raffle tickets after band camp July 29. Tickets are $5.00 each. Prizes are an Apple ipad, ipod touch, and three cash prizes.

Each band student is responsible for selling 10 tickets, but we will have more available if you would like to sell more. Money can be turned in and more tickets are available at the Tuesday rehearsals.

This fundraiser is designed to raise money for individual student accounts. Mr. Meadows has decided that 70% of money collected will go into individual accounts. That means for every 10 tickets your student sells, $35.00 will go into his/her individual account.

Raffle Dates to remember:

Tuesday, September 7:  All raffle money and tickets should be turned in to Lisa Bean.

Friday, September 10:  Raffle Drawing.

GoodSearch and GoodShop

We have something new and exciting we'd like to share with you! It's the new Normal Community High School Bands - NCHS toolbar - once added to IE orFirefox, each time you shop at more than 1,300 stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will automatically be donated to Normal Community High School Bands - NCHS - at no cost to you (and you may even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals as well!). The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to Normal Community High School Bands - NCHS. http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/normal-community-high-school-bands-nchs

Students: Participation in fundraisers is expected. The marching band is preparing a large trip this year to the Citrus Bowl.  WE NEED 100% PARTICIPATION from all students in order to participate in events on a national scale and perform in bigger venues. Seniors: we appreciate you being an example to the underclassmen.
