Techie Code of Ethics

  1.  I will take my job seriously – make my call time, appear at all tech rehearsals, and behave professionally – without expectation of personal glory.

  2.  I will help maintain the illusion - dress in appropriate stage darks, never let the audience see me until absolutely necessary, maintain silence backstage – at all times.

  3.  I will understand that I am a crucial part of the show and it will not go on without me.  This means I must take my job seriously, perform it to the best of my ability, and never expect someone else to do my job for me.

  4. I will always know that tech week is not an option, and that I must appear in my job for every tech rehearsal and every show.  This creates consistency and perfection.

  5. I will understand that theatre is a very complex business, and the director and tech director are there for a reason.  Therefore, I will listen to my directors and only offer suggestions at appropriate times.

  6. I will strive to perform my job perfectly, and if something goes wrong I will do my best to correct the problem without assigning blame or complaining.

  7. If for any reason I am delayed or unable to be at my post by call time I will contact one of my directors – not tell someone else to contact them, not assume someone will tell them – and tell him or her I will be unavoidably late.
