running out to paint your ceiling tile for the
senior cafeteria. There are three final days to
scheduled for you to come and leave your mark.
Plan to come to artroom #40 on either Sunday
February 21, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm,
Tuesday February 23, 2010 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm or
Thursday March 4, 2010 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Bring
$5.00 to any painting session if you have not

Youth Service Clubs for the Salvation Army.
Key Club members raised $1855 this holiday
season (almost double last year’s total) and
have retained the travelling trophy two years in

Pink! Join us on Thursday,
January 28, at 7:30 pm for NCHS Girls Basketball
vs. Bloomington High School. Proceeds from
Thursday’s game will benefit breast cancer
research and awareness. Pink T-shirts will be

Attention Parents and Students:
The Illinois Secretary of State (ISOS) has
received notification from the American
Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators
(AAMVA) that the National Computer Center (NCC)
will shutdown for extensive electrical work
during three holiday weekends in 2010 (Saturday
at 12:01 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. Monday of the
holiday). When the NCC is shutdown, the ISOS
will not have access to the Social Security
On-Line Verification (SSOLV) system. Shutdowns
are scheduled for the following weekends:

The 28th annual Straight A program is designed
to reward students who have achieved and A or A-
average in academic subjects during any grading
period of the fall semester. Come to the
guidance office to get info on how to receive
two complimentary tickets to selected Illinois
State men's or women's basketball games as well
as mention in The Pantagraph's April Straight A
promotion featuring the Straight A participants.

is Jan. 29th.

Normal Community High School parents/guardians
who use Skyward Family Access have the option to
receive email notification when their student's
meal account balance is below $5.00. To receive
the low-balance email, log into Skyward Family
Access., Under the General Information tab,
click E-mail Notification and check the box to
receive the email. The parent/guardian that is
listed as the head of household will receive the
email notice. If a parent/guardian needs to
provide an email address or address change, send
the information to Mrs. Trickett at
trickeje@unit5.org

Monical’s Pizza Community Day to help Iron
Pride!! Tuesday, January 12th Enjoy a night of
no dishes, no cooking, great pizza and help out
Iron Pride Parent Organization all at the same
time. All you need to do is print of the
flier from the Monicals Website or
pick up the Monical’s Pizza Community Day flier
in the Main Office. Present the flier when you
dine-in or pick up your pizza. 20% of all orders
will come back to Iron Pride! All of Iron
Pride’s funds go to teams, organizations, and
classes at NCHS. |

Intramural indoor soccer is right around the
corner! Team signup forms will be available on
the NCHS intramural indoor soccer website on
Tuesday, January 5. NCHS students who are
interested in participating can access
this link to IIS website. Signup begins on
Thursday, January 7. There is a limited amount
of space for teams so please be prepared. Signup
forms should be returned to Mr. Jelinek,
beginning Thursday, January 7. Games begin
Monday, January 11. If you have any questions,

The new Illinois text messaging law goes into
effect on January 1, 2010. According to the new
law:
"A person may not operate a motor vehicle on a
roadway while using an electronic communication
device to compose, send, or read an electronic
message." On January 1, 2010, it will be illegal
(in the state of Illinois) to: send or read a
text message while your car is in traffic; send
or read an email message while your car is in
traffic; use a cell phone in a SCHOOL or
CONSTRUCTION zone without the use of a
hands-free device.

This Friday, December 11th, come support the
NCHS Student Council by attending a bookfair at
the Barnes and Noble in Bloomington. Activities
such as a performance by Years to Come, have
some holiday presents gift wrapped or see our
own Sam Mangialardi perform a magic show and
create balloon animals from 630-8pm. A
Percentage of your purchase at the store or the
cafe will be donated to the student council. So
come enjoy some great music and activities and
do some holiday shopping to support student
council!!

Toys for Tots
Bring a new, unwrapped toy to homeroom the week
of December 7th ~ 11th and your homeroom might
win a Pizza Party to start finals week! Key Club
members will be stopping by homerooms and
collecting and tallying the toys. This year we
are particularly focusing on toys for kids 11-16
years old so think about what you or your
younger siblings would like to see under the
Christmas tree. The homeroom bringing in the
most toys will win a Pizza Party on Tuesday,
December 15th. |

Nelson's Catered Chicken is Back!!
The Boy's and Girl's Basketball teams are
working to raise money for their programs. They
are sponsoring a Drive-Thru Chicken Dinner at
NCHS on Monday night, January 25th . It is so
easy and so good. Dinner consists of a HALF
rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy,
green beans, bread, butter, AND a brownie all
for only $8 per meal. Purchase your tickets from
any basketball player or in the Athletic Office.
The meals can be picked up at NCHS on 1/25
between 3:00 and 7:00. They will be piping hot
and you won't even have to get out of your
car!!! Last day to purchase tickets from a
basketball player is January 8th but tickets can
be purchased through the Athletic Office through
Wednesday, January 20th. Don't miss out - get
your tickets today! |

NCHS “Cooking with Iron” Cookbooks are in. This
is a fund raiser for the Junior Class to help
pay for Prom. They have over 300 recipes and
sell for $15 each. They will be sold at the next
2 home NCHS Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball
games, December 3rd,4th,11th and 12th.
They will also be sold before the Band concert
December 8th and the Orchestra Concert December

NEW TRANSPORTATION PHONE NUMBER: 557-4BUS (4287)
In an effort to streamline calls and provide a
timely response regarding transportation issues,
Unit 5 has implemented a Transportation Call
Center. The Call Center was created to
centralize calls to the transportation
department and to route them to the appropriate
individuals to handle each specific concern.
The hours of the Call Center will be Monday –
Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Calls that
are made before 6:30 a.m., after 4:30 p.m. or on
weekends may be left in a voicemail box that
will be checked at 6:30 a.m. the next work day.
The goal is to provide a timely response to each
inquiry or concern and to be sure that a
resolution has been reached. |

Beyond the Books: If you are looking for a
meaningful holiday gift for an area educator,
Beyond the Books has an option for you. Beyond
the Books Educational Foundation is a mission to
fund innovative enrichment programs for the
students of Unit 5 and District 87 public
schools.
This year Beyond the Books invites you to send a
donation in honor of any Unit 5 educator. Your
donation will place the educator’s name on the
BTB Foundation’s Honor Roll. A certificate will
then be sent to your home for your student to
give to his or her teacher for the Holidays.
Donations are channeled into grants for
classroom projects.

progress report. To view the progress report,
click on Report Cards located on the left side
of your screen under General Information. Click

Word. At that point you may print or save the
document. |

to sell two tickets. Our Día de los Muertos
fiesta will be Thursday, October 29 in the

Congratulations to Spanish 5 and French 5 for
winning this year’s AP Foreign Language Kickball
Game. Despite a strong showing by German 5 (and
in spite of what you may have heard to the
contrary) Spanish and French were triumphant!
All 4th year foreign language students should
give serious consideration to taking AP next
year, because not only can you potentially earn
college credit, but you can also play kickball! |

do not need to be currently enrolled in a
Spanish class. If you are worried about the cost
of such an extravagant trip, we can help you

WMBD 31 News/Sports has selected the Normal
Community HS vs. Bloomington HS football game on
September 4th to be the the Week Two "High
School Game Day" match-up. Fans of each
school can go to the website,
www.ciproud.com and vote for their
respective school. Look for updates on
just who's winning the Spirit Poll in WMBD 31
newscasts throughout the week. The school
with the most on-line votes will be named the
"Spirit Poll" winner on Friday. |
