On May 26, at a brief informal ceremony at
Normal Community High School, Armie Wilbourn,
the mother of Michelle Wilbourn proudly accepted
the spring Mickey D Award for her daughter.
Michelle passed away on May 5. She was nominated
for the award in April.
Students that are nominated for the Mickey D
Award exemplify citizenship, leadership,
scholarship, and sportsmanship throughout their
high school years. In addition, school and
community activities are held in high regard.
McDonald’s, Bank of Illinois, and WBNQ are
sponsors of the Mickey D Award. Susan Saunders (WBNQ
representative), Dr. Jeanette Nuckolls
(principal), Danita Johnson (counselor), and
Jennifer Giermann (intern counselor) presented
the award to Armie.
Michelle was an outstanding student in her four
years at Normal Community High School. She
exemplified the qualities and ambition that
every teacher looked for in a student. According
to her teachers she actively participated in
class on a regular basis, was respectful of her
teachers and peers, and also went above and
beyond expectations. Her attendance had always
been great as well as her attitude. Other
qualities of Michelle were how mature and polite
she was. She was always saying “please” and
“thank you” whenever she asked a question or
received something that she had asked for.
Michelle’s citizenship, leadership, scholarship,
and sportsmanship truly made her an outstanding
individual at Normal Community High School as
well as within the Bloomington-Normal community.
Congratulations to the family of Michelle
Wilbourn on her being the recipient of the
Mickey D Award for the spring semester. |
