KJHS Wrestling Home

Academics First!

Last year I watched several good wrestlers fall to ineligibility due to bad grades. Remember we are in school first to learn, then to wrestle. Now’s the time to hit the books while your evenings are free and your not tired from a hard practice. Use the first half of the year to get a good jump on your studies, the second half will come easier if you do.

Discipline and a routine is the best method for enjoying school. When you walk in the door, don’t drop the books and run outside or hit the tv and video games. Get your homework out of the way, the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy, no last minute frustration for you or your parents. Most of the ineligible kids simply did not do homework, they were smart, but lazy. Parents, always ask about homework, a little show and tell with your kids will help find a problem and will show your child you care.

Use your free periods and study halls wisely. Instead of goofing off, get some homework out of the way. Being neat and thorough will improve your grades by at least one grade point. Always ask for extra credit or what you can do to improve a sagging grade point. A teacher will always help you out and your interest and effort may just boost your grade.
