Presentation by special guest Dr.
Gary Niehaus, Unit 5 Superintendent
Referendum
issues presented:
$80-$100 million referendum in
February ‘08
New middle school,
elementary and expansion of Sugar Creek Elementary
By 2015, we should add
another high school
Grove Elementary is the
model for new grade schools—
Would like to renovate eight
existing “inner circle” schools with better
lights, ceilings, new doors etc.
All but Carlock and Brigham are
using geothermal units.
Almost 1,000 kids in kindergarten and first grade in the
district
Dr. Niehaus emphasized that by 2010-2012, we will have to
seriously consider
moving some kids into the older “inner
circle” schools to best utilize all of the district’s resources. Some redistricting will need to occur.
Safety issues:
Dr. Niehaus and staff are investigating the possibility of
all buses having GPS systems and an “I Pass” for every student when they get on
and off the bus each day. He also
emphasized the need for more work with the town of
Several schools, including Kingsley need more cameras
Portable classroom safety was also discussed regarding
children passing
from trailers to main buildings.

remarked that she felt they were very nice

Response to Intervention is a program to help children before they fail.

Principal’s report cont:
-Dr. Mehall
is serving on the safety committee of CAC
-Unit 5 is
having a crisis plan drawn up for Kingsley.
Also kits are being prepared for the
classrooms
to be used in case of lockdown that drags on.
Staging area for an
emergency
is the ISU parking lot near Kingsley
-Girls
basketball has started
-Discipline
referrals are down a little
-Enrollment
is at 1008
-Kingsley
will soon have a portable laptop lab
-Newsletter
will be a little late this time
-This
month’s SOS (Support our Staff) is sponsored by Commerce Bank
-Kingsley
is due to get 10 new security cameras—these will be used instead of
a hired monitor in hallway
-Dr. Mehall
is further investigating a used scrolling sign for the school.

Membership

was raised as to how many of the staff and teachers are members of our
Parent Teacher
Organization. We will work on
encouraging staff to join

membership stands at 346 paid members

put a reminder in the newsletter

discussion with Dr. Mehall about ensuring that all teachers are consistent in
their
methods of
awarding PBIS Cav Cash to students
Volunteers/Lori Wisniewski
-Lori
volunteered to put out an inquiry regarding courtesy policy and whether or not
someone would like to do that for PTO
-Lori
passed around a revised volunteer sign-up form for next year
Spirit Wear/Angela Onysio
-Locker
ladders: 118 sold for a profit of $649
Monika Cavanagh recommended selling
these to 6th graders before they get to Kingsley
-A new
spirit wear campaign will have several new items in the future
