The May PTO meeting has now been moved to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14, in the IMC to accommodate the 7th/8th Grade Chorus Concert that is being held at 6:30 p.m. in Neuman Gym at KJHS.
Congratulations to the 6th grade band, orchestra, and chorus for a terrific concert last Thursday evening in Neuman Gym. It is amazing the progress these students have made in one year by having music rehearsals daily.
Congratulations to the KJHS Jazz Band who entertained us for all 4 lunch hours on Friday! Everyone was entertained by the wonderful music and the faculty guest conductors! We will miss Mr. Reese as the jazz band conductor as he is retiring at the end of this school year. He will be honored at the final 7th and 8th grade band concert on Monday, May 21, at NCHS.
Thank you to Kristen Rink, Lisa Brinkman, Susan Kullman, and Susan Herridge, KJHS parents, for assisting in stuffing the online registration packets on Friday! Your help was sincerely appreciated!
The 8th grade Six Flags PBIS field trip will be held on Thursday, May 17. Students will meet on the south bus lane for a punctual 7:00 a.m. departure.
The 6th grade Chicago Science and Industry Museum field will also be held on Thursday, May 17. Chaperones are to report at 6:40 a.m., and students are to arrive at 6:45 a.m. Departure will be promptly at 7:00 a.m. from the north end of KJHS. Students will return between 6:30-7:00 p.m.
Online packets for registration will come home with your students this week. Further directions for the online process can be found on our KJHS website to the right of my website letter.
Don’t forget to sign up for Unit 5 Summer Music Camp that will be held June 4- 8 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at KJHS. Further information is available on the KJHS website.
Several KJHS track students have qualified for the 7AA and 8AA State Track Meet this coming weekend. These students will be honored during lunch on Wednesday, May 16.
KJHS is partnering with the community event, 5K for Orphans, as they work with Souls4Soles to collect gently used shoes for adults and children in need. We have a shoe collection box in the Main Office for you to drop off your shoes before the end of the school year. Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. This year, why not donate your gently used PE shoes to those in need? Check out the 5K for Orphans page on Facebook for more information about the race and the work they are doing to raise awareness and funds for orphan care!
We will be honoring our band, orchestra, and chorus students during their lunch hours on Friday, May 18, for their outstanding performances in the IESA contests on April 28. Students will be recognized and provided with a pizza lunch.
Thank you to our wonderful KJHS PTO, especially Shelly Kruse, who provided our KJHS faculty with treats and gifts for Staff Appreciation Week! All staff members enjoyed being treated so royally!
KJHS wants to welcome Mr. Erik Rich as our new full-time GTT teacher at KJHS. Mr. Rich comes to us from NCHS where he has taught tech classes for three years.
Please note the following information from our Unit 5 Education Association:
Book Drive Coming Soon! Families, have you been doing some spring cleaning? Have your children grown out of some books? The Unit Five Education Association is developing a resource for teachers to build their classroom libraries. The Book Bank will be opening its doors this coming fall and we are collecting books now!
We need any and all gently loved books. Simply send these books to school with your child in a bag labeled “Book Drive” or, if you have quite a few, drop them off at the school office in a box. We will take care of getting the books over to the collection point. This is an on-going project, so feel free to donate books at any time – as long as they are designated to go to the book-drive.
Thank you for helping our Unit Five teachers put great literature into the hands of our students!
The final one-hour day of school will be on Wednesday, May 23 from 7:45-8:45 a.m. The last full-day of school will be on Tuesday, May 22. Yearbooks will be distributed on May 22.
Thank you for your continued support of our school!
As always, please contact me if you have further questions, concerns, or compliments. mehalllh@unit5.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lynette Mehall
