Parent Information from the Counseling Department

We would like to invite our 8th grade families to an upcoming presentation.  On Tuesday, March 30th admissions counselors from ISU and IWU will be here for a program entitled “Planning Beyond the Freshman Year”.  There will be 3 sessions dealing the the topics:

-Why should I go to college?

-What are colleges looking for?

-Paying for college: planning now!

The program will run from 6:30 until 8:00.

6th and 7th grade families are also invited if you’d like to attend!

Five Week Progress Reports will be sent home September 18th, November 20th, February 5th, and April 23rd.

 

 The end of the 9 week grading periods are as follows:

1st Quarter October 16th, 2nd Quarter December 18th, 3rd Quarter March 12th, and 4th Quarter will be the last day of school.

7th Grade Open House is scheduled for September 15th at 6:008th Grade Open House will also be on September 15th but will begin at 7:30.

 

MAP and ISAT Testing

MAP Testing for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be Monday, August 31st - Friday, September 11th.  Test retakes will be administered during the week of September 14th.  Testing will also take place in April of 2010.

 

ISAT Testing for all grades will be Monday, March 1 - Friday, March 12th

 

Tutoring Opportunity

Project Dream is offering  a free tutoring program.  The purpose of this program is to foster educational excellence through tutoring and promote character enrichment.  It will be on a first come - first serve basis.  It is open to the entire community of Bloomington/Normal.  The students will take place every Friday from 5 to 7:30 pm.

 

Project Dream is located at Heartland Community College, 1500 West Raab Road, Normal, IL 61761.

 

8th Graders Registering for High School Classes Parent Information

The high school counselors from NCHS and NCWHS will be at Kingsley on December 17th to talk with our 8th grade students about registering for their freshman classes.  Our students will be divided up by the high school they will attending as 9th graders.  Course description books and general information will be passed out at that time.

 

The KJHS 8th graders will be registering for their freshman classes during January, 2010.  Prior to registration, your student will be receiving recommendations from their 8th grade math, science, and foreign language placement (if applicable).  Please feel free to have your student go to www.unit5.org/diambrid/KingsleyFreshmanScheduleBuilder.html to practice putting together their class choices for the school year 2010-2011.

 

Freshman Orientation Meetings for our current 8th Graders

The Freshman Orientation Meetings for NCWHS and NCHS have been scheduled for January 6th.  The NCWHS Meeting will start at 7:00 pm.

http://www.unit5.org/kjhs/counseling/artbul1a.gif   4 Year Plans - 8th graders schedule your 4 year plan for high school with your counselor starting in January.  The 4 year plan meeting will cover courses that you may want to take for a specific career choice and/or college program.  The 4 year plan meetings will take approximately one hour.

http://www.unit5.org/kjhs/counseling/artbul1a.gif  Honor Roll - The Honor Roll is posted after each nine-week grading period.  It is posted in each classroom and students will be receiving a little award of accomplishment.  Students must attain all A's for High Honors and A's & B's for regular Honors.

http://www.unit5.org/kjhs/counseling/artbul1a.gif   Illinois Standardized Achievement Test - The Illinois State Board of Education has posted a sample test on-line at ISAT Sample Tests and has other information standardized testing information at ISAT.   Testing dates will be March 12 - March 22 for the seventh and eighth grades.  Sixth grade students will be taking the SAT (Stanford Achievement Test)/OLSAT (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test) between September 11-18.
