Teacher
I have been teaching for eighteen years at the middle level. I am currently teaching at Kingsley Junior High. Eleven of those eighteen years of teaching have been with Unit 5 school district at Parkside Junior High and Kingsley Junior High. My other teaching years were spent at Stratford Junior High in Bloomingdale, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago - near Naperville, Wheaton, and Carol Stream).
I am an 8th grade Language Arts teacher on team 8-1. I am also the language arts building chair for KJHS.
Author
I co-authored a book about my Indy 500 program. My co-author was a former graduate professor of mine. She is a researcher in the area of reading. Her name is Susan Davis Lenski. She and I have presented in Chicago, IL and Atlanta, GA about the benefits of independent reading programs. Many of my former students and parents are featured in our book. This was an exciting and rewarding process.
New! October 2007!An ideal model for . . . Developing an Independent Reading Program Grades 4-12 Erexenia Lanier, Language Arts Teacher and Building Chair for the department, Kingsley Junior High, Normal, IL Susan Davis Lenski, Professor, Portland State University, OR Ideal for any grade 4-12 teacher or literacy coach looking to
integrate an independent reading program, or improve the one that's
already in place, this new book is an in depth analysis of Lanier's
successful program, "Indy 500." In it the authors show you the steps
necessary to create and integrate a program to benefit students or any
language arts program, and to meet standards requirements. Using the
"Indy 500" program as a model, the authors describe how to create an
original independent reading program, assess student progress, and
integrate it into standards-based language arts programs.
Editors: Susan Lenski and Jill Lewis I helped write a chapter in this book with Sue Lenski.

Education
I completed my master's from Illinois State University in Curriculum and Instruction in May of 2002. I graduated from Illinois State University with my bachelors in 1990. I was a middle school major with emphasis in the areas of language arts, reading, and social studies.
I have endorsements in language arts, reading, and social studies. I have also completed my gifted certification.
I achieved National Board Certification in November of 2004!!! This is a teacher accreditation process that is tied to our national standards. This was one of my proudest moments as this was a lot of hard work and reflection!!! Currently, only 1,986 teachers in the state of Illinois have earned this certification!!
