Mrs. Kalina has been a teacher for 16 years.  She received both her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and her Master's Degree in Specialized Education from Illinois State University.  She completed the requirements needed for National Board Certification in order to become a Master Teacher.  Mrs. Kalina has taught at several of the schools in the area and district.  She taught at Hammit School for a year.  She taught fifth grade at Hudson School as a leave replacement teacher.  In her capacity as an area resource teacher, she has taught at Hudson, Carlock, Eugene Field, NCHS, and Fairview Schools.  Mrs. Kalina taught fourth grade at Fairview Elementary prior to transferring to Prairieland.  Teaching is a profession embraced by her family.  Mrs. Kalina's oldest daughter, Michele, is a band teacher and director at Bloomington Junior High School.  Her daughter-in-law, Tricia Reckers, is an art teacher at Kingsley Junior High School.  Brian, her son, has his degree from Millikin University in secondary education and works for Isaacson Construction, as does her husband, Scott.  Mrs. Kalina, her husband, and daughter Samantha (age 12, who is in seventh grade at Parkside Jr. High) reside in Normal.
