What would you do if your best friend was a robot? This is the case for Max, in the book Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. Max best friend Kevin is so small that he wants to be a robot. Every week or so Max and Freak, Kevin, goes to the hospital to get tests but is that really what he is doing?

This book has two main characters Kevin, Freak, and Max. Kevin lives with his mom Fair Gwen. Freak is very small and is a genius. Max on the other hand is huge and dumb as a rock. As you can see they are very different. Max lives with Grim and Gram, his grandpa and his grandma. He lived there since his father murdered his mom. His father is in prison for life. Max and Freak live in a town of gangs. Unfortunately, it’s not a town of nice gangs; they are mean and vicious. The gangs pick on people that are big, tiny, fat or even skinny so Max and freak have a hard time with them, but they find a way to avoid it. Will they survive the gangs and other serious encounters? Well you have to read it to see for yourself.

Me myself as a reader I never read I never even try to read so I wasn't happy when I got this assignment but I did it anyway. I thought there was too many pages personally, but it was an okay book or a so what book. It was a little boring for me. This is a fast pace book for some people. To me it was really slow. I think Rodman Philbrick wrote this book to tell people not to be mean to others just because they are smaller or bigger than you. He makes it clear that everyone needs a friend. This Realistic Fiction book has many thrills and many adventures. I recommend this book to girls and boys that like stories and slow action. I think this book is for fourth and fifth graders no younger because of language and the understanding and no older because it is a little boring for older students.
