The
dark portal is an action/adventure book and the first book of the Deptford mice
series. The main characters are Arthur, Audrey, Oswald, and Twit of the
Deptford mice. Arthur and his sister, Audrey, are two little mice whose father
has gotten lost. What are they supposed to do about this? Twit is a little
country mouse who is visiting his cousin Oswald. Oswald is a shy little
Deptford mouse who is very brave, yet very afraid of many things. The story
takes place in the city of Deptford, the rat’s sewers, and a ship. Down in the
sewers Arthur and Audrey’s father has gotten lost and when Arthur’s sister,
Audrey, goes to look for him she loses her mouse brass and this could come in
handy later in her adventurous life.
When Arthur’s father gets lost in the
sewers he then comes face to face with none other than Jupiter, lord of the
rats, who kills him. The grill later uses it’s evil powers to draw Arthur to it
and he decides that it is to turn back now.
I liked a lot about this book especially how it was so fast-paced. I think Robin Jarvis’s main reason to create this book was to teach people that if you stick together you could do anything. I would recommend this book to people of all ages and to people who are fast-paced. Anyone who wants to read this must BEWARE OF THE GRILL.
