So you found some information on the Internet...now what.

Step 1: Distinguish among fact, point of view and opinion of the authorship.
Who is the author of the page?

• Is it somebody's personal page
• What type of domain does it come from
• Who published the page
• What do others say about the author or publisher

Does the page contain factual information or is it the authors opinion?
From whose point of view is the information provided?

Step 2: Determine relevance, and comprehensiveness of website.
Is the information on the web page correct?

• Are sources documented
• Is reproduced information complete
• Links to other resources on the same topic
• What do others say
• Does anyone link to the page
• When was it last updated

Does this web page give you any information for your assignment?
Does the web page give you basic information you could find anywhere or does it expand your knowledge?   

Step 3: Identify inaccurate and misleading information on the website.
Is all the information correct or does some make you go HMMMMMMM?

• Why was the page put up
• What is the "tone" of the page

Step 4: Select information appropriate to the problem or question or assignment.
Does the information fit with the need or should you look more?

• Is this as good as it gets
• Can I find more information
