Boolean Logic
A method of combining keywords by using specific words that act as "operators".
AND requires all keywords be found
OR finds either keyword
AND NOT excludes keywords

Browse
When you follow links to a page or window shop for pages.

Directories
A group of websites selected by humans and organized into subject categories.  The websites maybe evaluated and annotated but not always.

Field searching
Limits the searching to a specific field of the documents. 
e.g., title, url, link

Internet
The collection of interconnected networks using TCP/IP protocols.  With a lower case i is any computers connected to each other.  Not to be confused with intranet which is an internal use information network.  Computers can have all three.

Keyword(s)
A word searched for through a search command.

Popularity Ranking
When a search engine ranks the order of the search results based on how many other sites link to a page.  Google ranks their pages this way.

Relevancy Ranking
When a search engine ranks the order of the search results based on an algorithm that factors in how often your terms occur in documents.

Search Engines
A group of websites selected by a spider and ranked by a specific format.  They are often huge and retrieve a lot of websites that are unevaluated.

Spiders
Computer robot programs that are used by search engines to roam the WWW through the Internet.  They, not humans, keep the search engine database up to date by adding, updating, and deleting pages from the database.
