Exploratory and Elective Computer Skills

Guidelines for Success

Guidelines for Success

1.        Be prepared for class. Every day you are expected to have a pen/pencil.

Ø  We only have 47 minutes for class, so once you’re in the room, you are expected to stay.

Ø  Take care of drinks and restroom visits before you come to class.

Ø  Follow the on-screen directions for the class.

2.       Pay attention and follow directions the first time they are given.  You MUST listen carefully.  Raise your hand if you have a question.  There should be NO talking when the teacher is talking of when you should be listening and/or working.

3.       When we are working as a group to learn new material, we will use the “Help Your Neighbor” method.  Keep an eye on their computer and help if needed.  This way we can keep the class moving.  However, on assignments you must do your own work and ask the teacher if you need help.

4.       Attend class and be on time.

Ø  Tardies

§ Because we do so much work together, we cannot start class until all students have arrived.  If you arrive much later than the rest of your class and do not have a pass, you are tardy.

Ø  Absences

§ Try not to be absent because it can be difficult to catch up on the work you missed.  Because work for this class must be made up at school, you will need to make arrangements to meet with the teacher before or after school or during tutorial, if possible.   It is your responsibility to check for work you miss when you are absent and to set up time to make up the work.

5.       Take care of class property.

6.       Keep your work area clean.  Leave your work area clean.  Push your chairs in when you leave.

7.       Changing computer settings and using the Internet, Email, or any other programs without permission are not allowed.

8.       Throw away your gum when you come into the computer lab.

9.       Food, drinks and candy are not allowed in the computer lab.

10.   Save paper!

Ø  Print preview and make sure your assignment is correct and has a footer before you print.

Ø  Do not print anything extra without permission.

Ø  Recycle any unneeded papers.
