Introduction to Computer Applications Goals

Overview This semester course is designed to continue to develop and improve proper touch keyboarding skills using proper technique to enhance speed and accuracy. Various types of application software will be introduced including Microsoft Word, excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher. Students will learn how to format letters, memos, reports, tables, spreadsheets (tables & charts), presentations, and various desktop publishing documents.
Course Goals: v Use correct fingering on keys. v Improve keyboarding technique. v Improve accuracy. v Proper formatting of personal and business documents: i.e., letters, memos, reports and tables. v Complete projects incorporating basic Microsoft Word commands and skills—document formatting and desktop publishing skills. v Complete projects incorporating basic Excel commands and skills—Creation & Formatting of Tables with Formulas & Charts. v Complete projects incorporating basic PowerPoint commands and skills—Slide creation implementation of the top ten basic design techniques related to transitions, custom animation, sound, layout, color scheme, fonts, & clipart/pictures. The skills learned in this course will help students effectively complete projects in all other academic studies. Learning to use the computer efficiently is an essential life skill. Keyboarding/computer skills are extremely important to be a successful participant in the business and professional world. In today’s business world keyboarding skills, Internet skills and basic application software skills will be needed in virtually every career.
Grades Grades are calculated out of total points possible. The more points an assignment is worth, the more it will affect your grade. Grades will be determined based on the following scale: 100-90% - A, 89 – 80% - B, 79 – 70% - C, 69 – 60% - D, 59% and below – F.
Work at School All work for class must be completed at school. If you need more time than is allowed in class or if you need to make up work after an absence, you are responsible for working before school, during tutorial time, if possible or after school. Some work will require the teacher’s assistance and you will have to set a time with me so I will be available to help you. |
