September 5, 2008

It was nice to have a short week, but it does make it more difficult to get into the swing of things.  The kids are doing better at some things, but they are still struggling with when it is learning time and when it is playing time.  Please remind them that as we get older, our responsibilities increase.  I am trying to ease them into third grade as best I can.  I hope that your child is enjoying the new school year.

Thank you for checking and signing the assignment book this week.  It should be signed each night, and if something is written down, your child should be able to show it to you.  I do not collect regular homework before the day it is due.  I appreciate your notes and comments in the assignment book, and try to take care of the things  you mention.

Please look through the papers in the Friday Folder and sign it to return on Monday.  Children may make corrections to work and return it for half of the points back.  Assignment notebook does not go home on the weekends because there is no homework on weekends.  I will answer more questions about this at Open House.

Next week we will be completing SAT 10 testing.  Please help out by encouraging your child to do his/her best and helping him/her to get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.  I will make every effort to lighten the load on homework next week, but we will still have a spelling test on Friday.  The SAT 10 schedule is listed below.

In math we are in the middle of a review unit.  In social studies, we are studying maps and the geography of Illinois.  We are still working on our science unit on plants and animals.

I have a lot of additional information to share with you at Curriculum Night.  I hope you can make it.
