    • Unit 5 email experienced intermittent outages, as well as voice mail issues, earlier this week. Everything has been restored to working order. Unit 5 will begin a process to move away from our current email platform Microsoft Exchange and is instead moving to Gmail. This move is necessary due to the fact that the current Exchange/Version/Server is past its end-of-life and the performance issues continue to mount. The problems this week further reinforce our decision to make this change. The migration is set to begin summer 2016, and will be completed by August 2016. Thank you for patience as we work through these issues.

  • test This past spring, Illinois students participated in a new state assessment, called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam, in English language arts and math. The PARCC assessment replaces other standardized tests and marks a significant change from these previous assessments. The test lines up with the updated Illinois Learning Standards and measures students’ problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and writing skills, which are abilities all students need to stay on track for college and career readiness after high school. For more information on PARCC,  CLICK HERE . As parents are looking at their child’s PARCC scores, the following links will provide you with even more detailed about what the scores indicated about your child’s performance. http://www.unit5.org/Page/12814 .

reportcard Unit 5 has begun the process of transitioning to Standards Based Grading in the elementary grades.  Teachers and administrators have been engaged in study and research around Standards Based Grading and many teachers have begun to shift their assessment practices to align to this type of grading and reporting.  In the 2016-2017 school year, teachers will begin to report some grades in the Standards Based Grading format, and we will have full implementation in 2017-2018. There will be opportunities for parents to learn more about this shift in grading and reporting. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Please remember that students may be dropped off between 8:25 a.m. and 8:40 a.m.. Students may not come to school before 8:25 a.m. unless they are in the before/after school program or the breakfast program (breakfast starts at 8:20 a.m.) We do not have teachers on duty before 8:25 a.m
