Citizens Advisory Council Study Topics ~ 2002-2003

It is the CAC’s mission to represent the Unit 5 community by fostering district-wide dialogue and examining topics of interest.

2002-2003 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOCUS AREAS

 
This year’s Citizens Advisory Council focus areas are designed to culminate in a five-year Comprehensive District Improvement Plan. The Plan will provide guidance and direction for the district from the vantage point of its community representatives.


Curricular Programs

Develop a plan to assure:
The Unit 5 curriculum and assessment practices are aligned with the Illinois Learning StandardsEducators have access to continuous professional development opportunitiesUnit 5 meets the national mandate of “No Child Left Behind”
Report to the CAC on March 19,2003.
Report to the Board of Education on April 9, 2003.
 
Co-Curricular Programs

Create a Co-Curricular Program designed to:
Develop leadership opportunities for students outside the regular school hoursCompliment the curriculum by increasing practical skill development in core areasExpands student access to other community educational programs

Report to the Board of Education on April 9, 2003. 
Finance
 
Develop a financial plan that will
Identify areas of foreseeable financial concern and outline potential solutions Prioritize areas of needs to assist in fiscal support plansEducate our public in financial trends, legislated mandates and fiscal options

Facilities
 
Design a comprehensive plan to provide
Safe and educationally appropriate facilities for all studentsWork, meeting and storage areas necessary for administrators, teachers, and staff A prioritized list of areas of concern and recommendations to address them

Diversity
 
Develop a plan to
Increase the retention and achievement of students from underrepresented groupsProvide mentorship/leadership opportunities for all new students of underrepresented groupsExpand participation of these students in curricular and co-curricular activities

Community Awareness
 
Create a communication model that will
Promote opportunities for CAC members to act as community ambassadors for the schoolsProvide a systematic information flow to the Unit 5 community concerning the Comprehensive Plan and other key issuesEncourage a wider participation by the community in the analysis and resolution of issues involving the schools.
