Community Partnerships and Support
The citizens of Unit 5 have a long history of supporting
quality education since the formation of the school district
in May 1948. During the spring of 1992, they approved the
construction of a new high school and new elementary school,
renovation of Normal Community High School, and the acquisition
of a future school site.
In the fall of 1997, our citizens supported construction
of two new elementary schools, renovation of three elementary
and both Junior High schools, and money for computer infrastructure,
equipment, and training.
An active 60-member Citizens Advisory Council has been
an important support to the school district for years. Annually,
it undertakes major projects to assist and advice the Board
of Education on major needs of the school district.
In addition, Unit 5 partners closely with several local
and community programs. Through our efforts, and those of
our partners, we expand the capabilities and abilities of
the various services of Unit 5 and our Community, enriching
all who participate.
