About Unit 5 Technology
The IT, or Instructional Technology Department, of Unit
5 maintains, supports, installs, and repairs the computing,
mainframe, and network resources of the school district
on a year round basis. IT also works in conjunction with
the Building Technicians to ensure that staff and student
PC assets are kept in working order, as well as operating
a 5 Day a Week (M-F 7:30AM to 4:00PM) help desk system.
Finally, IT also provides technology training assets and
instructors for the PDA program.
Instructional Technology Department
- Support technology as a tool for instruction and
communication with students, staff, and community.
- Analyze and review district technology efficiency
in regard to the need for hardware and software platform
upgrades as stated in the District Technology Plan.
- Expand technology opportunities for students, staff
and the community.
- Promote the efficient and effective use of district
resources. Utilize technology to enhance student learning
environment.

Wide Area Network
The Unit 5 Wide Area Network (WAN) consist of:
- All district buildings within Blooming/Normal have
fiber-optic connectivity.
- Four elementary schools connected via wireless bridge
connectivity.
- 50+ File Servers.
- Storage Area Network (SAN) supporting district infrastructure.
- 3000+ Workstations
- 6000+ Active Accounts and 12,000+ User Accounts
