Childhood is a journey. . not a race!

                                                Meet Mrs. DeBord

I began my teaching career in Unit 5 Schools in 1978.  This school year will be my 30th year of teaching!  Many of those early kindergarten years were fulfilled as a part time teacher when our children were young.  I truly love my job. . ."If you choose the right profession you will never work a day in your life!"

I received my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Illinois State University.   My husband, Tom is a systems analyst at State Farm Corporate South.  We have 3 grown children:  Allison, 22, Emily, 24, Bloomington, and Barry, 26, Naperville.

     Developmental Philosophy

I pride myself in a child-centered developmental classroom.  This means that we respect and welcome differences in children and look at each  student on their own continuum of learning and development.  This approach has a blend of play activities, choices for the learner, exploration and discovery, and academic skills based on the Illinois Learning Standards.

The German origin of the word  kindergarten is. . .

                                             "a child's garden"!

Watch us bloom. . . .in our room. . . at Northpoint School!
