Multiplying by 3

Count by three's!  3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36!

When you multiply by 3, you are saying that you have groups of 3.  Look at the array below:

There are three buttons on each snowman.  There are 4 snowmen in the park.  How many buttons are there in all?

The multiplication problem would be 3 x 4 = 12

The array shows four groups of 3, for a total of 12 buttons

Practice multiplying by 3.  Remember that multiplying by 3 is the same as counting by three's.  So 3 x 5 is the same as 5 + 5 + 5.
