CROSS-COUNTRY This sport involves running a distance of 1.9 – 2.1 miles for middles schools over many different types of terrain. We may encounter grass, hills, creeks, roads - almost anything. A team is made-up of at least seven runners with the top five scoring for the meet.
PARTICIPATION Every cross-country meet is a little different depending on the host school and the size of the meet. The coach will inform the runners of the exact set up of the meet at the practice prior to the meet.

SCORING
Cross-country is both an individual and a team sport.
The race will produce an individual winner; this runner will score 1 point
for his or her team. Each
runner thereafter will receive a place. The individual places of the first five runners from each school
are used to determine the team score.
The team with the lowest point total wins. Every runner after the fifth
runner on the team is important in order to
bump the points of the other team(s) higher. The team that wins the meet depends on the
entire squad.
