E-Books as Assistive Technology
The following e-book features can be used with students with special needs.
Adjustable text display (font size, pre-highlighting by teacher, screen contrast)
Text-to-speech features--e-book is read to student and text is highlighted for student to follow
Teachers can create sticky notes, bookmarks, drawings to assist students and save them "on" the e-book
Teachers can download dictionaries and select as default for e-book
A few e-book collections have been specifically designed for people with disabilities. There is a subscription cost associated with most of these sites.
