The Valley of the Shadow Project takes two communities, one Northern and one Southern, through the experience of the American Civil War. The project is a hypermedia archive of thousands of sources for the period before, during, and after the Civil War for Augusta County, Virginia, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Those sources include newspapers, letters, diaries, photographs, maps, church records, population census, agricultural
 census, and military records.

The site contains a lot of information including a timeline, a database of the people who fought in the Civil War, information on many different battles, photographs and artwork of the time period, and historical documents.

This site provides an extensive, annotated collection of "links to primary sources on the Internet that are directly related to women and the Civil War." It is organized into three categories: Diaries, Letters, Documents; Photographs and Prints, and General Civil War Pages.

The Story of One Union Soldier B. McKnight
This Web site is very useful for information on Bernard McKnight, a Union soldier.

Civil War Manuscripts:  The letters were written by Confederate and Union soldiers from the Civil War battlefront. Descriptions of General "Stonewall" Jackson's wounding, the horrors of Gettysburg, and the loss of comrades are matched by expressions of devotion to country, to God, and to loved ones left behind.
