Second-Grade Homework We have a second grade weekly homework routine to help teach responsibility. It also helps you, as parents, to keep track of what is expected from your second grader Friday and Monday: Speller's Choice Please check your child’s folder for the week’s spelling words. You should see a pretest and a good copy of the words. Begin working on your Speller's Choice activities. Remember, the final test is on Thursday of each week. Tuesday: Reading Homework for this day will be to read this week’s story from the reading book. Vocabulary words accompany each story in the "Vocabulary Power" section. Please make sure your child can read these words and tell you what these words mean. Reading the word in the sentence provided will help determine meaning. If necessary, use the glossary in the back of the reading book. This story should be read aloud to an adult. Please make sure reading books and colored slips are returned to school the next day. Wednesday: Speller's Choice Remember to return your Speller's Choice homework slip with a parent signature on Thursday morning. Thursday: Math A math practice paper will be sent home. This should be a review of a concept. Feel free to provide guidance and explanations for these papers. You may also help your child find mistakes to correct. This will be a good way for you to see what we are studying in class and what your child may need extra help on. Please return homework the next school day. Additional math practice should included addition and subtraction facts, telling time, and counting money. Daily: Check for guided reading books Each day, I will meet with small groups or individuals to guide them through reading books on their instructional level. These are usually small books and will come home in a small baggie. Please listen to your child read and discuss the story with your second grader. Sign the slip of paper that came with the book and return both the paper and book to school the next day. You may see books come home once, twice, or three times in a week. We appreciate your help and support in establishing and maintaining this homework routine! |
