The Brigham PTO meets on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in Room 121, the teacher's workroom. Babysitting is provided. Meeting dates for the 2007-2008 school year are:
PTO is the Parent-Teacher Organization at Brigham Elementary School. The objectives of the PTO are to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and community; to encourage communication and cooperation between home and school; and to provide financial assistance to supplement educational and extracurricular programs. The PTO is comprised of an executive board, several committees and 2-3 teacher representatives that focus on meeting the objectives. When does the PTO meet?The PTO meets the second Monday of the month beginning at 6:30 p.m. The executive board, committees, teacher reps, principal and parents have an opportunity to discuss items for the month. Most board positions require a 2-year commitment to enable a smooth transition from year to year. These meetings are open to all parents of Brigham students. ALL PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND REGARDLESS OF THEIR COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT! PTO EXECUTIVE BOARDThe executive board, consisting of the officers, transacts necessary business in the intervals between regular meetings, creates and approves committee work, approves routine bills within the limit of the budget, and establishes an auditing committee. President, presides at all PTO meetings, appoints special committees, coordinates the work of officers and committees, and performs all duties as assigned by the PTO. TC: 5 hrs/month Vice-president, acts as an aide to the president, performs the duties of the president in his/her absence, prepares the yearly calendar, does miscellaneous jobs as asked. TC: 5 hrs/month Secretary, records and distributes PTO meeting minutes, maintains PTO meeting attendance and an orderly file of PTO documentation, schedules volunteers to bring refreshments to each meeting; and conducts PTO correspondence. TC: 1 hr/month and present at all PTO meetings. Treasurer, maintains the financial accounts and records for the PTO, presents a written financial statement at every meeting, provides financial records to auditing committee, and completes and files appropriate IRS forms. TC: 1 hr/month, busy in Sep/Oct Standing CommitteesChili Supper, coordinates and administers the fall Chili Supper. TC: very busy in fall, Fri pm/ all day Sat of chili supper weekend. Projects, administers Campbell's food labels, Box Tops for Education and Tyson A+ programs. TC: 20 hours per project. Hospitality, plans and arranges staff appreciation activities; and provides hospitality arrangements for school events as requested by PTO. TC: 2-4 hrs/month Cultural Arts, uses budgeted PTO money to arrange cultural arts assemblies or events, with an educational value, for the students and families throughout the school year; involves collecting and reading literature provided by potential entertainers, making phone calls, and scheduling events with the school calendar. TC: 1 hr/mo. 1st Grade Reading, recruits for and coordinates the first grade reading volunteers for each classroom under the direction of the teachers; publishes a schedule for teachers and volunteers; monitors the program throughout the year. TC: 3-5 hrs. at beginning of school year. Volunteers, coordinates the scheduling of volunteers for various PTO and school functions, including chairing Chili Supper-Carnival volunteer scheduling. Membership, recruits Brigham parents and faculty for PTO membership; gathers PTO information, coordinates recruitment activities throughout the school year, collects membership fees, maintains PTO membership list, and reports updated membership information to the PTO. Room Parents, coordinates Room Parents, provides information to Room Parents for holiday parties, teacher birthdays, and Teacher Appreciation Week. Carnival, coordinates/plans activities for Carnival; acquisitions game supplies and prizes; organizes games; coordinates set up and tear down of games, signs, decorations, food stands, and tables. TC: 20 hours Tickets, coordinates printing and distribution of tickets, announcements, and notices for the Chili Supper-Carnival. Great Giveaway, solicits prizes and coordinates the Great Giveaway raffle held at the annual Chili Supper-Carnival. Country Store, solicits craft, home décor items and baked goods; coordinates and staffs the Country Store bazaar at the Chili Supper-Carnival. TC: 2 busy weeks before carnival. Library Coordinator, coordinates the scheduling of volunteers for the IMC and administers the Birthday Books program, including purchasing and distribution. PBIS-Character Counts, organizes activities, presents in the class rooms and promotes CC! whenever possible. Character Counts is the foundation to all that is done at Brigham. Parents, teachers and students join together to learn how to be people of character through the six pillars of Character. TC: about 2-3 hours per month. Market Day, Volunteers needed to help with pickup of pre-ordered food items. 10% of sales goes toward Brigham Elementary!!!! TC: 2 hours/month TC = Time Commitment All parents are encouraged to participate in the monthly PTO meetings! PTO welcomes assistance at all levels. Please volunteer to chair or assist with a committee.
