F.I.S.H. Books

 First Grade Information Stored Here

You can find the copy sheets for my FISH books in the Teacher's Corner area of my web site.

What are F.I.S.H books?

Our F.I.S.H. books are 1 1/2 inch, three-ring binders that are sent home with each student daily.  They are the binders with a "clear view" pocket  so that I can put a cover page with  the student's name, school address, and phone number in case the book ever was lost.

Why use F.I.S.H. books?

Using F.I.S.H. books helps maintain effective communication between home and school.  F.I.S.H. books also eliminate lost papers and messy backpacks.  In general, the notebooks teach necessary organizational skills to children at an early age and help the parent stay organized at the same time.

What do you put inside the F.I.S.H. books?

  •   A zippered pouch to hold money that is sent to school for lunch, field trips, book orders, etc.
  •  A welcome letters explaining the purpose of F.I.S.H. book how it works (inside page protector)
  • Weekly newsletter (3 hole punched) that goes home on Monday
  •  A copy of our class list (inside a page protector)
  • Skill sheets- 100's chart, ABC's, handwriting sheet, etc.
  • Blue, 2 pocket folder with a label on one side that says: "Homework To Do" and label on the other side that says: "Homework To Turn In"
  • Red, 2 pocket folder with a label on the outside that says: Super-Duper Work to keep"
  • Spiral notebook in the back for parent/teacher communication.  Parents can write notes to school, or the teacher can write notes to the parent.  A fish cut-out is put in the front of the book when a note has been left so that the parent and I know to look for the note.

How often do you send the F.I.S.H books home?

I send them home each day.  As part of our "packing up" routine, the children get their book off the shelf and load it  into their backpack.  When they come in each morning, they turn the book in to the Reading table, where I TRY check them during attendance and journal time.

Special thanks to www.pre-kpages.com/bearbook.html for the ideas!
